Contemporary Art Museum MACA

The Contemporary Art Museum MACA is housed in the city’s oldest surviving civil building. In the baroque style, it dates back to 1685 and is located next to the Santa María basilica. It was originally designed as a cereals warehouse but was also used as a business school before finally becoming a museum.

Volvo Ocean Race Museum

Provincial Archaelogy Museum MARQ

Awarded Best European Museum of 2004, carries out its activities with the main challenge of being the first archaeological museum of XXI century.

Gravina Fine Arts Museum

The Gravina Fine Arts Museum occupies the 18th century Gravina Palace, which once belonged to the Count of Lumiares and housed the Provincial Archives. It exhibits works owned by the Provincial Council of Alicante, with collections comprising works of art created in Alicante from the Middle Ages to the early 20th century.

Alicante City Museum MUSA

The new Museo de la Ciudad de Alicante (Alicante City Museum, MUSA) in the fortress of Santa Bárbara, is spread out over five rooms. The ensemble also includes an aljibe, a water tank from the Renaissance period, and a Video room, screening a video about the “Espacio del dolor” (Painful Space) (the dungeons).

Fogueres Festival Museum

If you are interested in festivals and its history, this museum is one of the best exponents of  Fogueres de Sant Joan. A festival wich has been officially declared to be of International Tourist Interest.  Free admission

Water Museum

Lucentum Archaelogical Site

Located just 3 kilometres from the city centre, in the area known as Tossal de Manises, are the major archaeological remains of the Roman city of Lucentum or ancient Alicante, which are an important reference point for the Ibero-Roman period.

 

Nativity Scene Museum

This museum is located in a traditional house typical of the city’s Old Quarter. It is home to a permanent exhibition of nativity scenes in homage to the great nativity scene tradition of Spain and various other countries around the world and its collection includes several international pieces. Free admission.

The Bullfighting Museum

The Bullfighting Museum is housed in one of the buildings that form part of the city’s bullring on the square known as Plaza de España.

La Cigarreras Cultural Center

The popular tobacco factory was established at the beginning of the 19th century and is an outstanding example of the area´s architectural urban heritage. When tobacco production was transferred to the surrounding suburbs, the old factory was taken over by the town council.

 

La Lonja Exhibition Hall

In this unique building there are numerous exhibitions (painting, sculpture, history, nature, …) and activities.

University of Alicante Museum MUA

Devoted to contemporary art, this museum was opened in December 1999 and is located on the campus of the University of Alicante in the nearby town of San Vicente del Raspeig. It is the only museum as such to be housed on a university campus.
